Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) The HSE refers to local exhaust ventilation as engineering controls. These are the equipment and systems, ranging from small man-moveable 'suck and chuck' extractors and portable mobile welding fume extractors, to built-in static exhaust gas extraction installations serving whole welding workshops.
Grinding LEV OSHA requires grinding wheels, buffing and polishing wheels, grinding belts and other grinders to have local exhaust ventilation when employee exposures exceed established limits (29CFR 1910.1000). Exhaust ventilation must meet minimum requirements (29CFR 1910.94(b)). Recommended LEV specifications have been developed by the ACGIH.
